The Frenchman has returned the La Liga title to the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time in five years.
He is now looking to make history by becoming the first man to successfully defend the Champions League crown, with Juventus awaiting Madrid in the final.
Whatever the outcome in that contest, though, Perez believes a former idol from his playing days has shown himself to be among the finest managerial minds in the business.
Speaking at Madrid’s town hall during the club’s title celebrations, he said: "Thanks Zinedine for all you have given us, and all you keep giving us.
"You were the best player in the world, and now you are simply the best coach in the world.
"You, your assistants, and this squad have made history again with exciting football. Madrid scored in every game of the season, which shows our philosophy.
“They all took part, they are all important and this team spirit has made us stronger.
"This league title is a symbol of our values, it was achieved fighting until the last game, and respecting our opponents, who made it difficult for us.
“This team has given us something we had wished for a long time.”
Madrid edged out eternal rivals Barcelona by three points to claim the La Liga title, netting 106 times in 38 fixtures which delivered 29 victories and only three defeats.
